When the ancient hunter first cut open his game, he no doubt began to recognize that the heart was the center and essence of each living thing. This organ lied at the center of his subject and all of the arteries and vessels flowed into and out of it. Not long after this first discovery he surely began to associate his own heart with all that moved and motivated himself. Through the heart flowed all of his motivations, his desires and his intentions. The heart, it was discovered, was his essence.
