Paul's picture of Christ was thus no narrow Jewish conception of a national Messiah fulfilling national prophecy. Christ was the one for whom the whole world had been groping and feeling. The teaching of Jesus was no mere revision of the Mosaic Law. Paul took Jesus' teaching into the language and the life of the great wide world. But more than that, he took Christ from Nazareth and from Jerusalem into the great cities of the Empire. He preached the spiritual Christ, the son of God who lives not in Jerusalem but in the souls of men of every nation. Christ the son of God, lived in Paul and in Aquila and in Priscilla. We in sordid America can hardly realize the exaltation of this thought. We have become so accustomed to the words and phrases that we have lost the driving power of the truth that lies behind them.
