We have been so accustomed to dwell on the moral evils of slavery, the essential enormity of the system, and the wrongs which almost of necessity arise out of it, that we are apt to overlook that which otherwise we should not be slow to recognize, namely, how baneful the system is in its influence upon the white race, and how seriously it impoverishes a country, and retards the progress of its people.
